I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is a former Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and is currently a lawyer.
"Sometimes called 'Dick Cheney's Dick Cheney,' Libby was an important foreign policy adviser inside the White House and was seen a possible successor to national security adviser Condoleezza Rice." [1]
Libby started his government career in the State Department in 1981 under President Ronald Reagan. He has also, at various times in his long career, held positions with the American Bar Association, the Rand Corporation, the Department of Defense, and the United States House of Representatives (as a Legal Advisor).
Libby graduated from Yale University in 1972, where one of his professors was Paul Wolfowitz and from Columbia University's law school in 1975. He also wrote The Apprentice, a novel published in 1996.
After graduating from law school, Libby went to work as a lawyer in Philadelphia, then got a job offer from Wolfowitz, now the deputy defense secretary. In 1981, Mr. Libby went to work for Mr. Wolfowitz at the State Department, then left in 1985 to go into private practice.

Before joining the White House staff, "Scooter Libby was most recently managing partner of the Washington office of the international law firm of Dechert, Price & Rhoads. He also served as Legal Advisor to the House of Representatives' Select Committee on U.S. National Security and Military/Commercial Concerns with the People's Republic of China, commonly known as the Cox Committee. Libby has held a variety of positions at the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Department of Defense. His previous government position was Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. He is a graduate of Yale University and received his J.D. from Columbia." [3]
Libby, a neo-conservative, used the very same office Theodore Roosevelt used as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, in the Old Executive Office Building. He resigned after being given a 5 felony-count indictment by a grand jury on October 28, 2005. The Charges were; obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements during the investigation into who may have been the administration official who "outed" Valerie Plame, an undercover CIA agent, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in jail. The exposure of the identity of Valerie Plame, is widely believed to have been not only for political gain, but revenge.
Convicted Felon
Libby's trial began on Jan. 22, 2007. Firedoglake had excellent daily blog coverage. Libby was convicted on four of five counts against him, and sentenced to a $250,000 fine and 30 months in jail; however President George W. Bush commuted his sentence so that he never spent a single day in prison.
CIA Has Information
On March 7th, 2006, CIA information officer Marilyn Dorn said that it would take up to nine months to gather all the information requested from the CIA by the defense attorneys from Libby. The information is highly classified and compartmentalized, and there are potential claims of executive privilege. Compartmentalized information requires a special security clearance, meaning the CIA could not assign just anyone to help gather the requested information. S
Author of Literary Fiction
In 1996 Libby wrote The Apprentice: A Novel.
Lauren Collins of the New Yorker sums up its bizarre sexual content:
"The main female character, Yukiko, draws hair on the 'mound' of a little girl," Collins reports. "The brothers of a dead samurai have sex with his daughter....certain passages can better be described as reminiscent of Penthouse Forum...Other sex scenes are less conventional."
A direct quote from the novel: "At age 10 the madam put the child in a cage with a bear trained to couple with young girls so the girls would be frigid and not fall in love with their patrons. They fed her through the bars and aroused the bear with a stick when it seemed to lose interest."
British Literary Review editor Nancy Sladek, who oversees a Bad Sex fiction writing contest, tells Collins: "That's a bit depraved, isn't it, this kind of thing about bears and young girls?" Never mind the passage concerning sex with a deer." Full Article
Other readers have suggested the book was wrongly denounced as pornography, and is instead a coterie novel possibly intended for followers of Leo Strauss.[4] Libby dedicated the book "For my family."
