Hinduism

From dKosopedia

Hinduism is the principal religion of India. Outside South Asia it is found primarily in immigrant communities of people from South Asia.

It developed ca. 2000 BCE. Yoga a current popular exercise craze in the U.S. has its roots in Hinduism. It is comprised of a variety of sect and is generally viewed as polytheistic (i.e. having more than one God) although some observers point to more universal ideas of divinity within this faith.

The Upanishads are a collection of texts which tell the stories of many of the major Gods, such as Siva, Rama, and Vishnu.

Hinduism is associated with the Indian caste system. It originated as Varna System where people were classified based on particular "professions". British gave this professional classification the name 'caste system'. Hindu History has many instances where Brahmins( priestly class) acted as Kshatriyas( warrior class)in times of need.
