George Helm

From dKosopedia

George Jarrett Helm Jr., a native Hawaiian activist, one of the Kaho'olawe Nine who landed on Kaho'olawe on Jan. 4, 1976, illegally. The nine were protesting the Navy’s use of Kahoolawe for military training and target practice, putting themselves in harms way. Helm died in March 8, 1977 returning by surfboard from Kahoolawe with Kimo and Billy Mitchell. Kimo Mitchell also perished on that day.

Kahoolawe was a symbol of the young Hawaiian sovereignty movement and Helm and Mitchell it's first martyrs.

Helm was a surfer, budding Hawaiian musician and extraordinary falsetto vocalist.
