Federal Bureau of Investigation

From dKosopedia

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is an agency in the United States Department of Justice tasked with law enforcement and domestic counterterrorism efforts.

In March, 2005, the agency cancelled a $170 million dollar software project called the Virtual Case File. In March 2007, Director Mueller blamed antiquated computers for the Bureau's abuse of National Security Letters (Source: FBI chief blames computers for privacy flap).

The FBI has the power to issue a National Security Letter, which allows it to gather information without a search warrant, and also prohibits the recipient from revealing that they received the letter.
