Evan Bayh is a second term U.S. Senator from Indiana and the former Chair of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC).
Among senior advisers on Bayh's political action committee is Thurgood Marshall Jr., son of the late, great Supreme Court justice and a former member of the Clinton administration, and Anita Dunn, former senior advisor to Bill Bradley.
On December 4, 2006, Senator Bayh formed an Presidential exploratory committee but decided not to seek the Democratic nomination.

Background
Senator Bayh was born in Shirkieville, Indiana. He graduated with honors in business economics from Indiana University in 1978 and received his J.S. from the University of Virginia in 1981. After clerking for a federal court judge and entering private law practice in Indianapolis, he was elected Indiana's Secretary of State in 1986. In 1988, Bayh was elected Governor of Indiana becoming the first Democratic Governor in 20 years and the youngest Governor in the country. Bayh was re-elected Governor in 1992 by the largest margin in modern Indiana history. Bayh was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998 and reeelected in 2004.

Senator Bayh has said he would announce his decision whether or not to try to for the Democratic nomination after the 2006 holidays. Senator Bayh has been to Iowa and New Hampshire numerous times over 2005 and 2006. During the 2006 Congressional Elections, Senator Bayh paid for 25 staffers in Iowa and 15 staffers in NH. The GOP in Iowa credited Sen Bayh's staffers as being a significant reason the state changed from Republican to Democratic control.
As of October 2006, Senator Bayh had $10.6 million in his senate account. This was 3rd highest amount among the 2008 presidential hopefuls, behind Sen Clinton and Sen Kerry.
