Eric Cantor

From dKosopedia

Eric Cantor is the 42 year old (as of 2005) Republican Representative from Virginia's 7th District. Cantor is the only Jewish Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives. If his web page is any indication, Cantor has ambitions far beyond representing the 7th District. Note that "seventh district" is almost disguised in pale blue lettering against a dark blue field.

Marathon Man

Cantor was named Chief Deputy Whip by Majority Whip Roy Blunt in December 2002 at the conclusion of his first term in Washington. That honor means that he has had to raise funds for a leadership PAC to help other Republican Representatives in close District races. Cantor has likened his fundraising efforts to, "running a marathon." Schnorring. Minnesota-based fundraiser, Jerry Seppala, has been important to his success in fundraising. Seppala has reportedly helped Cantor in reaping big bucks from Jewish Republicans. Cantor and Seppala are linked to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC). Source: Patrick O'Connor. "Cantor Nets Big Bucks for Colleagues." The Hill. July 20, 2005. p. 1

Torture

Cantor was one of three out of eleven Representives from Virginia to vote against specific instructions to House negotiators to include Senator John McCain's word for word language on torture in the defense appropriations bill. The House approved the langauge in a 308 to 122 vote. Source: "Bush, McCain Agree on Torture Ban." December 15, 2005.
