The Episcopal Church of the USA (ECUSA) is a mainline protestant denomination, with 2.4 million members. It represents the United States in the Anglican Communion. Please see the official website for more information on the church's theology, history and organizational principles.
The ECUSA is one of only a handful of Anglican churches in the world that ordains women as bishops, and it is the only one that ordaines homosexuals. The church reaffirmed its views at the 2006 General Conference, in spite of strong pressure from other members of the Anglican communion. Some of the ECUSA's dioceses and churches disagree with these liberal policies, and have sought to disassociate themselves from the ECUSA by affiliating with other national churches.
