Ed Schrock was elected to Virginia's 2nd Congressional district in 2000. A longtime Navy officer and Vietnam veteran, Schrock was one of the most conservative members of the House of Representatives. He seemed well on his way to a 3rd term until August 2004 hit. The flap began amid "allegations" which derived from a website which claimed to have tapes of Schrock asking other men for sex (Schrock was targeted for his anti-gay voting record and co-sponsorship of the Federal Marriage Amendment ). Given that the district contained the world's largest navy base and Pat Robertson's Regency University, Schrock, while never confirming the "allegations", apparently felt compelled to resign on August 30, 2004. Virginia delegate Thelma Drake replaced him on the November ballot.
His 2004 Democratic opponent was David Ashe.
