Don Young (R - Fort Yukon) was born June 9, 1933 in Meridian, California. He received an A.A. from Yuba Junior College in 1952 and a B.A. from Chico State College in 1958. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1973 in a special election following the disappearance of incumbent Rep. Nick Begich (D), whose plane went missing on a flight from Anchorage to Juneau on October 16, 1972, and has been the Alaska At-Large representative since then.
