DHinMI

From dKosopedia

DHinMI was for five and a half years the pseudonym of political blogger and campaign manager Dana Houle. He first discovered Daily Kos in February 2003, but didn't create his pseudonym until mid July 2003 to comment on that blog. After serving over fourteen months as an official guest blogger on Daily Kos, he continued making front-page posts there, later becoming a Contributing Editor to the site from the time it became a formal group blog through August 2009. He is currently managing the campaign of Matt Entenza, a DFL candidate for Governor of Minnesota for the 2010 election. He co-founded the group blog The Next Hurrah in February 2005.

DHinMI on Daily Kos

DHinMI's first comment on Daily Kos in July 2003 has been lost to posterity, as HaloScan comments were temporarily used, and then lost a month and a half later, when Movable Type comments overloaded the server of the ISP that Daily Kos was using. However, within a few days, on July 21, 2003, one of his comments was front paged.

His first extant comment in a surviving comment thread is from the first day Movable Type comments were restored, on August 16, 2003.

On February 11, 2009, Dana changed his Daily Kos username from DHinMI to Dana Houle aka DHinMI, and on March 31 he changed it again to Dana Houle. He continued using his real name on the site until his departure. His final posts to the front page were on August 26, 2009; he continued commenting until September 1, 2009, and his account has been deactivated.

Posted Comments

It is highly unfortunate that the first month of DHinMI's comments are lost entirely, with the one exception of that front-paged comment.

A list of links to DHinMI's Daily Kos comments can be found on the DHinMI Comments page; eventually, this page should have a complete list of all comment threads that DHinMI contributed to from August 16, 2003.

Guest Posting

On September 19, 2003, Markos announced that he was appointing two New guest posters: Meteor Blades and DHinMI. RonK, Seattle remained a guest blogger, which he'd been since April 11, and stayed on until Daily Kos switched platforms from Movable Type to Scoop a few weeks later (the Movable Type site was closed and archived on October 15).

DHinMI continued as a Daily Kos guest blogger through November 30, 2004, writing a total of 164 guest posts for the front page: 13 under Movable Type, and 151 under Scoop in this period.

The next set of guest bloggers took over immediately after that, but Markos noted that front-page "alumni" would still be able to continue posting on weekends as the mood struck them. DHinMI didn't post any stories in December 2004, but started again in 2005, and continued writing front page stories, with breaks to manage political campaigns, through August 26, 2009. He wrote another 368 front-page stories, for a total of 519. He also wrote 172 diaries.

DHinMI's Other Blog Writing

DHinMI was a co-founder of the group blog The Next Hurrah, which was founded on February 23, 2005. His fellow 2004 DKos guest bloggers Meteor Blades and Trapper John were also co-founders, and other writers included another 2004 front pager DemFromCT, along with later DKos front pagers Plutonium Page and Kagro X, and other writers. DHinMI posted at The Next Hurrah through October 18, 2007.
