Denver or the City and County of Denver is the capital of and largest city in Colorado. Denver, also known as the "Mile High City" for its elevation. Denver has a unified city and county government. Its mayor is Democrat John Hickenlooper.
According to the 2000 Census, the City and County of Denver has a population of 554,636 and is 52% white, 32% Hispanic, 11% African-American, 3% Asian-American, 1% Native American and 1% Other. Denver's voters supported John Kerry over George W. Bush in the 2004 election by a 70-29 margin.
