Background

Bruce Braley lives in Waterloo with his wife, Carolyn, and their three children. Braley's father was injured in a workplace accident, so the family didn't have much money, and he put himself through college as a laborer. He graduated from Iowa State University, and got a J.D. from the University of Iowa in 1983.

Bruce is the past president of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association, and has worked closely with Democratic legislators in Des Moines on many issues. He has helped draft legislation that was passed and signed into law on several occasions, and also served on Governor Vilsack's Task Force to Protect Iowans' Consumer Privacy. Bruce was very involved in the Edwards for President Campaign, serving as Black Hawk County Precinct Coordinator and hosting many student volunteers on caucus weekend. He also worked for the Kerry-Edwards campaign in Black Hawk County.
