Arkansas Judiciary. There are three levels of courts in Arkansas:

• Appellate Courts which are the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals - appeals from Circuit court go to these Courts
• Circuit Courts which hear civil, criminal, juvenile, domestic relations (divorce, child custody) and probate (wills, adoptions, guardianships)
• District Courts first hearings of serious criminal cases, and civil cases in matters of less than $5,000. A small claims division of district court provides a place where citizens can take care of matters themselves (without an attorney) to resolve civil matters under $5,000.

All judges in Arkansas are elected by the voters in the State. The Supreme Court and Court of Appeals members are elected for eight year terms. Circuit judges are elected for six year terms and District Court judges for four year terms.
