Category: Kentucky Republicans
Anne Northup is a Republican who once represented Kentucky's 3rd district, which is based in Louisville. She is a close ally of George W. Bush and represented the district from 1997-2007.
In 1996, Northup received campaign help from Bush; in 1999, she was member of his presidential exploratory committee. She represents a predominantly Democratic district, but she votes with the President 95% of the time.
Northup has consistently won since 1998, beating Chris Gorman, Eleanor Jordan, Jack Conway, and Tony Miller in their respective election cycles.
In 2006, she was defeated for reelection to Congress by John Yarmuth.
In 2007, she ran for Governor, but lost to incumbent Ernie Fletcher in the Republican primary, see Kentucky gubernatorial election, 2007.
Inane Comment from George W. Bush
During a January 11, 2006 "Discussion on the Global War on Terror" at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Bush said this of Northup: "I call her a friend because she is one." Interestingly that's also the same reason many people call Bush a moron.
