The AMA has been a long-time opponent of any form of public health care program, going back to Theodore Roosevelt. In Operation Coffee Cup they organized letter-writing campaigns at coffee meetings where they played the Ronald Reagan LP record, Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine.
At least in theory, the AMA has endorsed a public health care program this time, because of the mistreatment of their members (and to some extent, of their patients) by insurance companies.
