Alex Penelas

From dKosopedia

Alex Penelas was, from 1996-2004, the Democratic mayor of Miami, Florida, and a candidate for retiring Democrat Bob Graham's Senate seat in 2004. Penelas was responsible for shutting down the recount in Miami/Dade during the contentious Florida wrapup of the Presidential election of 2000. For this reason, 2000 popular vote winner Al Gore slammed Penelas during the Senate primary, endorsing his rival, Peter Deutsch. Penelas' campaign, already marred by bickering with Deutsch and a lack of money, never recovered, and Penelas was a distant third on primary day.
