Guys, Fact Check: Is Air America really "prospering" with a "large audience" as this article states? Last I heard, they were in bad financial straits. This article sounds more like an ad than anything resembling a progressive encyclopedia. Cleanup is needed.

Air America Ceased Operations

Air America Radio ceased operations in January of 2010. This article provides a historical look only.

Air America Historical

Air America Radio is a progressive radio network and program syndication service in the United States. It started on March 31, 2004, featuring a left-wing political talks show with a blend of entertainment and comedy. It also incorporate standard talk shows feature such as monologues, audience phone in, email and audience participation in web-blog.

The network's primary station is New York City's WLIB-AM. As of August 2005, AAR shows are carried in 70 stations in the U.S.

In addition, XM Satellite Radio carries Air America Radio on channel 167. Air America Radio also makes use of audio streaming on the World Wide Web, reaching a national and international audience. Some of the personalities who host shows on Air America Radio include Al Franken, Laura Flanders, Janeane Garofalo, Mike Malloy, Marc Maron, Randi Rhodes, and Jerry Springer.

Overview

Air America Radio (http://www.airamericaradio.com) began service late March, 2004. Despite early difficulties finding appropriate management, Air America soon prospered, attracting a large and loyal audience interested in fact-based programming.

Most of Air America's programming originates live from its Manhattan studios. However, some segments, such as Marty Kaplan's So, What Else Is News?, are recorded in California. As of July, 2005, Air America has approximately 70 radio affiliates, a wildly popular Internet feed, and carriage on the national satellite radio service, XM Radio, channel 167. AAR's high-powered on-air talent includes Saturday Night Live alum Al Franken, actress Janeane Garofalo, radio veteran Randi Rhodes, and musician Chuck D. With compelling talent, top-grade guests, and a skilled investigative news team, Air America looks set to thrive.
