• April: Television evangelist Oral Roberst tells his audience that God had spared his life because he had raised the required $8 million.
• May 24: First major minority ethnic Serbian protest in Kosovo over real or alleged prosecution by the ethnic Albanian majority.
• August 6: Membership of the British Social Democratic Party agrees to merge with the British Liberal Party in a vote of 25,897 (57.4%) to 19,228 (42.6%) with a turnout of 45,125 (77.7%).
• September 17: British Liberal Party annual conference votes 998 to 21 to begin negotiations to merge with the British Social Democratic Party.
• October: Slobodan Milosevic purges Serbian Communist Party and mnes media of opponents. Stalinist S.O.P.
• October 6: Fijian military coup leader Maj. Gen. Sitiveni Rabuka formally declares Fiji to be a republic.
