The Battle of Navarino. A combined Anglo-Franco-Russian fleet sinks an Ottoman-Egyptian fleet at Navarino Bay, marked a decisive intervention in the Greek Revolution against Ottoman rule(1821). Two years later, Ottomans recognize Greek independence.

Timeline

March 29: Independence, Missouri founded, Quickly becomes important frontier town.
April: Charles Darwin quits medical school.
April 27: The Dey of Algiers, Hussein, apparently cranky from fasting during Ramadan, slapped French Consul Pierre Duval with a fly whisk and called him a "rascal." The French get even for the insult in 1830.
December 27: Charles Darwin begins studying to be a clergyman at Christ's College.
