Background

The Senate Subcommittee on International Operations and Organizations, Democracy and Human Rights is a subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It is responsible for oversight of the Department of State, the Broadcasting Board of Governors, the Foreign Service, and public diplomacy. It also oversees United States participation in the United Nations and other international organizations not under the jurisdiction of other committees, as well as U.S. policy in promoting democracy and human rights abroad.
