Tom DeLay (Republican Representative for the TX-22, but only temporarily.
First elected to Congress in 1985 this former Houston exterminator and squeaky fundamentalist Protestant rose to become Deputy Whip in 1988, Majority Whip in 1994 (against the wishes of the equally repulsive Next Gingrich) and House Majority Leader in 2002 with the retirement of Dick Armey. After several years of subverting American democracy DeLay is now focused on staying out of prison. He now lives in Virginia while he awaits trial on money laundering and conspiracy charges.
Once the god-king of Texas Republicans, DeLay has become an albatros around their necks. On August 3, a Federal Appeals Court refused to allow Texas Republicans to remove Delay's name from the 2006 general election ballot, upholding the Federal District Court's decision.
In 2007 Delay got aught admitting he hoped US policy towards Israel would cause the apocalypse.
- This is the life of a leader in Congress, the history of what happened," DeLay said in an interview from New York. "I was a little worried about the parts where I pointed out people's strengths and weaknesses. That made me feel a little uncomfortable. Seeing that in print makes you kind of go, 'Oh, I don't know if I want to do this.'" Comment made promoting his 2007 book No Retreat, No Surrender. March 20, 2007. News Report
