I think the template should include a brief introductory paragraph explaining that the entry is about a meme, with a reference back to MemeTank. When coming across these entries, I keep experiencing a second or two of "wtf?" before I realize it's a MemeTank entry. Any thoughts on that (the intro paragraph, not my confusion)? --Clang 12:23, 29 May 2004 (PDT)

-Pyrrho 05:03, 3 Jun 2004 (PDT) I agree
-Jumbo 07:04, 3 Jun 2004 (PDT) How 'bout a little sidebar w/related memes. Like so:

This is a MemeTank meme. Related memes:

  • MemeJustLikeIt
  • SameMemeDifferentGuy
  • Anti-meme
-bgod 07:54, 3 Jun 2004 (PDT) I like it. It never occurred to me that someone would come across these memes from somewhere other than the MemeTank page. Obviously they can and it can be confusing.

I think this template is too constricting and intimidating. Too much organization. There should just be a paragraph that touches on all those themes and then a list of sightings. --Jumbo 03:19, 1 Jun 2004 (PDT)

-Pyrrho 05:03, 3 Jun 2004 (PDT) The reason for this is so that automated tools can go through the articles and correlate and sort memes based on the words in those sections. I.e. that's the idea of status and quality. The point is to keep the sections titled such that they are brief. I consider them technical. They don't have to go at the top or anything, maybe they should be hidden as a footer (I like them at top but whatever). Another reason is to try to focus our energy later when we have to classify what constitutes our advocated output. E.g. is Bush Is Phony too petty to advocate... too petty to record? By having sections that invite such characterizations we can vote on these characterizations and then use the results for classification and strategic purposes. It's late here... not sure if that makes sense.
re: too stiffling: Maybe explictly stating "other", or comments to that effect... btw, I think "sightings" should be added to the template.
--Pyrrho 21:23, 5 Jun 2004 (PDT) more succinctly -- I'm planning down the road to write programs that tally votes and correlate other information, and they want to get information as put into sections to provide the semantic information which programs cannot deduce on their own (i.e. a program can correlate a "status" from a section contianing status keywords, but cannot get status out of a paragraph of natural language)
