The wording "an attempt to deprive Hawaiian nationals of their international right to self-determiniation and independence and is inconsistent with Hawaii's history as an independent country" suggests strongly that there is a Hawaii sovereignty movement that seeks to create just such an independent country.

Can we have a whole article just on that please? It's important to document US secession movements, e.g. Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, to the same degree as those nearby, e.g. Chiapas, Quebec, Newfoundland.
