Thank you very much for your assistance in aiding the DailyKos Tag Cleanup Project; we will let you know when or if editing "bad tags" is once again allowed, or when we have redesigned this page so that only those tags that are safe to change are listed below. — Sardonyx 21:10, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
This page is now full! The only edits to this page should involve corrections. No newly completed cleanup jobs should be added to this page!
Keeping Completed Tag CleanUp Jobs here just so we can recheck from time to time to make sure the bad tags don't creep back in.
Note: this is the third Archive page of old cleanup jobs, and is being kept for reference purposes. Jobs start on 1 May 2007, and continue through those completed on 10 July 2007 (last actual job on 9 July). The jobs are listed in chronological order, first completed job at the top and continuing in order of completion to the bottom.
New jobs should be added at the bottom of Tag:Completed Cleanup Jobs Archive Page 4, the fourth and most recent of the Archive pages. All completed tags and their basic tag conversion information are also listed on the Tag:cleanup jobs completed page. — Sardonyx 20:17, 13 April 2007 (PDT); last revised 20 July 2007.

"Election Fraud"-related Tags
"election fraud" is used 321 times - more than any other contender. --SarahLee 07:58, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
Job: Change each of the following tags to "election fraud"
vote fraud (72) Done 8:45AM May 5/07 CB
voter fraud (122) Done 12:00 Noon May 6/07 Note 12 tags retained as 'voter fraud' according to instructions. CB
voting fraud (26 ) Done 12:20 PM May 6/07 CB
However: When working on the diaries tagged "voter fraud", there is one category that should retain the "voter fraud" tag: diaries about actual cases of voter fraud, such as about Ann Coulter's real case of voter fraud, and diaries that are about the fact that Elizabeth Dole does not live in North Carolina. There are also a few diaries about prosecution of voter fraud by U.S. atorneys. These should retain the "voter fraud" tag. In general, though, for most diaries tagged "voter fraud", it is by mistake, when "election fraud" is what was intended. This shows how successful the Republicans have been in embedding their meme in our minds. This will require scanning the diary before changing the tag, taking a bit more time.
All "vote fraud" and "voting fraud" tags should be changed. --Halcyon 14:29, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

"2008" tags
IMPORTANT: At Markos's request, no further "2008" (or any other year) tags are to be changed to "2008 elections". This job is obsolete. — Sardonyx 12:45, 20 August 2007 (PDT)
Years alone are sometimes used to indicate the year an event happened whether it is an election related event or not. We cannot remap all 2006 or 2008 tags via the database to "2006 elections" or "2008 elections" because we can't be positive that the diary is about election issues and not a non-election event. 85% of the time it is, but not always and certainly not with year tags for other years.
Job: This is ongoing. Watch for 2008 tags and if the diary is election related change it to "2008 elections". (same for "2006" or "2004" and the election years going forward)
Update: This is going to be a hard one to keep ahead of. More publicity is needed to get people to use "2008 elections". On 04-14-07 there are 429 of them. --SarahLee 14:25, 14 April 2007 (PDT)
Update: I just got rid of all "2008" tags used in 2007; should be only a couple of hundred (and the new ones) to deal with now. --SarahLee 11:47, 1 May 2007 (PDT)

Unauthorized time-specific Cheers and Jeers tags
At some point, someone added quarterly cheers and jeers tags, a blot in the tagging firmament. (As we all know, all you need to do is specify the time range as part of a search, and you get all the relevant diaries.) Bill in Portland Maine has declared them anathema, unauthorized, and otherwise blots on the C&J firmament. Time to call in the blot removal team, aka us.
Experience shows that these tags are used in addition to the authorized "Cheers and Jeers" tag, so expect to be deleting rather than editing.
There are also six versions of "C&J" tags out there; if you find any of them, delete immediately!

"Green" tag
Earlier discussion about this tag here: Green Tag
- If the reference is to the "Green Party", then "Green Party" is the correct tag.
- If the reference is to members of the green party, then change to "Greens"
- If the reference is to the environment in some form or fashion, (green living or building) make sure that the "environment" tag is in the diary and delete "green"
- If the reference is to "green beer" - or something else, delete it.
Job: Delete or remap the green (81) tag.

"King George" and "King George III" tags
This is most likely our monarchical President, George W. Bush, but it might be George III himself, and many of these diaries will refer to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. It could be that both Georges will be invoked, and should be tagged...and it might be about some other George who was a monarch, unlikely though that seems in the abstract. — Sardonyx 19:08, 13 May 2007 (PDT)

Senate tags
"Senate", at 4330 tags, is definitely the way to go. People like to add things to it, though, and it's time to cut the duct tape connecting these other words to Senate. Generally, qualifiers like "US" are unnecessary; the one in Washington DC is The "Senate"; the rest all take qualifiers. Similarly, years don't belong, terms like "Race(s)" don't belong. We need a clean Senate (in more ways than one!), and this topic is designed to get it.
For jobs like "Senate 2006", "Senate Race", "Senate Races", and "Senate Campaign", be sure to specify the year of the election in a tag (e.g., "2006 elections", "2008 elections) if not already done so; similarly, if a specific race is specified, be sure the state and the state race (e.g., MA-Sen) tags are included. The words "race" and "races" are not valid election tags, and I don't like to encourage "campaign" or "campaigns" even if they are both in the 250-300 range. — Sardonyx 19:26, 13 May 2007 (PDT)

House tags
"House", at 2477 tags, is definitely the way to go, despite pretenders like the wordy "House of Representatives" (406). People like to add things to it, though, and it's time to cut the duct tape connecting these other words to House. Generally, qualifiers like "US" are unnecessary; the one in Washington DC is The "House"; the rest all take qualifiers. Similarly, years don't belong, terms like "Races" don't belong. We need a clean House (in more ways than one!), and this topic is designed to do to the House what we've been doing to the Senate.
For jobs like "House 2006" and "House Races", be sure to specify the year of the election in a tag (e.g., "2006 elections", "2008 elections) if not already done so; similarly, if a specific race is specified, be sure the state and the state race (e.g., MA-Sen) tags are included. US-related tags, first set
Since Daily Kos is a United States-based blog, the default assumption for most tags is that "US" or "U.S." in front of most tags is redundant. Army" (363) is going to mean the U.S. Army (34) or US Army (30).

Congress tags
"Congress", at 4523 tags, would seem to be the way to go, but in some cases "House" is the right choice, if the diary is talking just about the House of Representatives. ("Senate", alone, is another—if less likely—possibility.) Generally, qualifiers like "US" are unnecessary, and years definitely don't belong. This topic is designed to do to the whole Congress what we've done to its two chambers.
For "2006 Congress", be sure to specify the year of the election in a tag (e.g., "2006 elections", "2008 elections") if not already done so; similarly, if a specific race is specified, be sure the state and the state race (e.g., MA-Sen) tags are included. The word "races" is not a valid elections tag. — Sardonyx 06:53, 20 May 2007 (PDT)
