Stewart E. Iverson, Jr. (R - Dows) is a former Iowa Senate Majority Leader. Mr. Iverson grew up in Dows and graduated from high school there. He then went on to Ellsworth Junior College and graduated with a BA degree in Accounting from Buena Vista College. He was first elected to the Iowa House in 1989, and then to the Iowa Senate in 1994.

After the 2004 elections, when Republicans lost four seats in the State Senate, there was an effort to remove Iverson as the Republican leader and replace him with Jeff Lamberti. That effort was not successful, and Iverson removed several rivals from comittee chairmanships in retaliation. On April 10, 2006, in a completely unprecedented move, the Republican caucus voted to remove Iverson as leader in mid-session, and replaced him with Mary Lundby.

One week after the June 6th primary, Iverson announced that he will retire from politics. He has not said what he will do with the $130,000 in his campaign fund.
