Sol Kaho'ohalahala, a member of the Democratic Party, resigned on January 6, 2005 as the representative of District 13 to the Hawaii State House of Representatives of the Hawaii State Legislature. Rep. Kaho'ohalahala was reelected to his house seat in the general election of 2004 by defeating his republican opponent, Meiling Akuna. House district 13 includes: East Maui, Kaho'olawe, Kalaupapa, Lana'i and Moloka'i.

  • From the Honolulu Star-Bulletin Dec. 30, 2004, "Newly elected state Rep. Sol Kaho'ohalahala has been selected as the new executive director for the state Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission. Kaho'ohalahala, 53, is scheduled to take on the new role effective next Thursday, when he plans to formally resign as a state House member. ...Kaho'ohalahala was selected for several reasons, including his experience in helping to restore a dry-land forest on Lanai and in participating in some celestial navigation expeditions on the Hawaiian voyaging canoe Hokule'a. Aluli said the commission hopes to restore the foliage on Kahoolawe, which has similar growing conditions to Lanai, and also develop the former target island as a navigational center."

Kaho‘ohalahala began his political career in the Maui County Council in 1995 as the councilmember representing Lana‘i. He then served two terms (1998-2000, 2002-2004) in the Hawaii State House of Representatives.

Sol's focus on sustainability, clean environment, clean energy and clean government is in keeping with traditional Hawaiian values of aloha.
