Rex Saunders, a Democrat, running in the 23rd Representative District for a seat in the Hawaii State House of Representatives in 2006.
Currently the Manager of the Seaside Hawaiian Hostel Waikiki (where sales have increased 50% year on year since his arrival), Rex brings PROGRESSIVE leadership and Community Service.
Humanitarian Volunteer in Iraq, 2003
In 2003 he was working as a High-Adventure Tour Guide here in Hawaii when the Iraq situation started arising, he joined JET (The Japan Emergency Team) and led, from March-June 2003, a Humanitarian Expedition which delivered one of the first truckloads of aid (bottled water, satellite telephones, etc.) to Baghdad and Iraq.
He met daily with US & UK Military, UN, Red Crescent & Cross and the Iraqi Civilian Community during CMCC (Civilian Military Cooperation Council) meetings and later surveyed every major city (by means of public transport! ) for Health, Sanitation and Safety.
After returning home to Hawaii he ran for office in 2004, winning the Democratic Primary and then receiving almost half the Vote on General Election Day against the 5-term incumbent House Minority Leader.
