Phill Kline (R) is the district attorney for Johnson County, Kansas, and the former Attorney-General of Kansas. Kline was appointed to his current position by local precinct leaders, after he was defeated for reelection as Attorney General in 2006. He began his career as Johnson County DA by summarily firing eight employees, including seven assistant district attorneys, on his first day in office.

Kline is a far-right social conservative with ties to Joe Wright and Terry Fox, two Wichita ministers who led efforts to pass a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

Kline has used the Attorney General's office to investigate the state's few abortion clinics, and he views fundamentalist churches as fundraising sources for his campaign.
