Commenting on Daily Kos

Meteor Blades's first comment on Daily Kos, using his pseudonym, was on January 25, 2003, responding to a story by guest blogger Steve Soto, So Much for Dismissing "Old Europe" The comment thread link to that post is here, and his comment was signed "MeteorBlades". He added the space to his name later that year.

He also made two prior comments on Daily Kos under his real name, Tim Lange. The first, in the Markos-created Open Thread: waxing philosophical, can be found in the post's comment thread.

List of Comment Links

When Meteor Blades started commenting at Daily Kos, the blog was using Movable Type software. Markos was the sole blogger—though he began inviting guest bloggers to cover for him occasionally as 2003 began—and comment threads popped up in a separate window. The Movable Type site has subsequently been archived at DailyKos.net, and all links are to that archive.

In the archive, direct links can only be made to individual front-page posts, and to the comment threads of those posts. Only the entire thread can be linked to; there is no way to link to individual posts. So, once you bring up a comment thread in your browser, use your browser's search function to find "Meteor". This will find all of Meteor Blades's comments regardless of whether the space is used in the name or not, plus some direct references to those comments or questions to Meteor Blades. If you only want to find Meteor Blades's comments, then search on "by Meteor".

In the list of comments below, the date given is the date the particular front-page post was made; it is possible that the actual comment was made the next day. Note that Meteor Blades traveled to Bali on February 21, 2003, and he didn't comment on Daily Kos for several weeks after he arrived.

The person writing the original front page post is assumed to be Markos; if there was a guest blogger that day—Billmon, Steve Soto, Steve Gilliard, RonK, Seattle, or DHinMI—that blogger will be named. Any open threads that Billmon may have created will be credited to him on this page; if uncredited, open threads are also assumed to be set up by Markos.

Note that comments attached to Meteor Blades's own front-page posts are not listed on this page. Links to those comments will be found on the Meteor Blades Posts page.

After May 31, 2003

Comments posted by Meteor Blades after May 31 and until the Movable Type (archived) Daily Kos site was shut down on October 15, 2003, will be added as their links are retrieved from the archive. As this is a labor-intensive process, the task will take weeks or months to complete.
