Background

Mary was born in Chicago, IL in Novemebr 1954. She is a business owner in electronics design; manufacturing; and has also worked in financial management and public service.

Education

Dartmouth College; public schools

Governmental Experience

Nolan's previous government experience covers chairing the NASA industry advisory council; serving on the Oregon Construction Contractors Board; serving as Portland Environmental Services Director; and chairing the Portland Private Industry Council.

She currently serves in the legislature on the following committees:

  • Interim Revenue Committee
  • Budget Reconciliation Committee
  • Education Committee
  • co-chair, Pro-Choice Caucus
  • Natural Resources budget committee
  • Agriculture & Forestry Committee
  • Statewide bi-partisan Revenue Options Task Force to find permanent funding for Oregon schools.

She has been at the forefront on the following issues:

  • Driving force for top quality public schools from pre-kindergarten through graduate studies.
  • Consistently opposed any budget cut for K-12 public schools.
  • Co-sponsored and advocated Willamette Restoration proposals.
  • Led strategy that defeated every medical choice criminalization bill.
  • Sponsored bill to expand access to emergency contraceptives.
  • Sponsored Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program.
  • Sponsored law to help laid-off workers in re-training programs.
  • Sponsored Oregon Opportunity to create new high-paying jobs.
  • Sponsored law to help small businesses afford health insurance.
