John J. Cullerton

Senator John J. Cullerton (D 6th District) is President of the Illinois Senate.

He served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1979 to 1991, when he was elected to the Illinois Senate. He became President of the Illinois Senate in 2009.

John Cullerton was born on October 28, 1948, in Chicago. He earned a B.A. in political science from Loyola University and a law degree from Loyola University Law School. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1970 to 1976. Senator Cullerton is a former Assistant Public Defender and instructor at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He is married and has five children.
