Joe Bertram III, a Democrat, was elected in 2006 to represent the 11th Representative district in the 2007 Hawaii State Legislature. The 11th district includes the areas of Makena, Wailea and Kihei on the island of Maui, Hawai'i.

Born on April 29, 1957, in Boulder, Colorado, Bertram has been a Hawai'i resident since he was nine years old. Bertram was raised and currently resides in Kihei.

  • serves on the Kihei Youth Center Board
  • Vice-President Kihei Community Association Board, Chair of the Roads/Greenways/Roundabouts Committee.
  • Director, Greenways Maui, a nonprofit walking and biking advocacy group. The group is promoting the establishment of a Safe Routes to School Program (linking all the schools in Kihei).
  • Maui Coastrail Eddie Pu Project (an around the island Hawaiian walking trail, starting in Kihei).
  • helped save the trees on Hau‘oli St. in Ma‘alaea.
  • represents Greenways Maui in the Maui Tobacco Free Coalition and on the Maui General Plan Advisory Committee, promoting public participation and the establishment of walking and biking as fundamental for transportation and recreation. [1]
