U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert (R) retired from congress on November 26, 2007. This special election will fill the remainder of his term in the 110th Congress.

Republicans:

Dates: Primary - February 5, 2008, General - March 8, 2008.

Comments: Foster won! He beat Oberweis 52-48. These two will meet again for the regular election in November. The Chicago Tribune endorsed Foster. The 14th district leans Republican, but it is competitive.
