Narrative

Sen.Akaka will not retire, and received a ringing endorsement from fellow Senator Daniel Inouye at the State Democratic Convention. This seat is likely to remain under Democratic contol, although Rep. Case is hoping to make a strong challenge. Akaka is rated by one progressive rankings as the most progressive senator (see The Irregular Times ratings of current House and Senate representatives, at [2]). But the Irregular Times rankings are, well, irregular in some respects.

For the best ratings, see The National Journal. On Feb 24th they published an ideological ranking of all members of Congress. (You can find the scores and check their methodology at the National Journal website: [3] ) Another good source is Progressive Punch, at mind the wrap!): [4]

Case always rates as less progressive than Akaka, but he would say that demonstrates that he's more independent.
