Gary Gill

Gary Gill, a former Honolulu city councilman and former Deputy Director of the Environmental Health Administration in the Hawaii State Department of Health

Gill was first elected to the Honolulu City Council in 1986 and left the council in 1994. While on the Honolulu City Council, Gill championed the “Save Sandy Beach” campaign, promoted bicycle and mass-transportation, and fought suburban sprawl. Gill ran unsuccessfully in the Honolulu mayoral election in 1994.

Gill was appointed Director of the Office of Environmental Quality Control in 1994 in Gov. Benjamin J. Cayetano's administration.

In November 1998, Gill was appointed Deputy Director of Environmental Health, in the Hawaii State Department of Health in the Cayetano administration until 2002.

Gill, in June 2003, became the Director of Development for the Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter. Gill's role is to expand the Club’s funding base, coordinating volunteers and increasing public knowledge of the Clubs purpose, mission and goals.

Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services, a health center, has a 20-year lease with the state to manage land at the head of Kalihi Valley. Its active-living program coordinator, Gary Gill, is in charge.
