Gabrielle Giffords (D) serves Arizona's Eighth Congressional District. She is an Arizona businesswoman and former state legislator. She was first elected to Congress in 2006, see Arizona U.S. House election, 2006.

Gabrielle Giffords was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2000; she was then elected to the Arizona Senate in 2002 and 2004.

Giffords has a Master's Degree in Regional Planning from Cornell University. She is a graduate of Scripps College, where she was awarded a William Fulbright Scholarship for work with the Mennonite community in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Giffords served as President and Chief Executive Officer of El Campo Tire, Inc.

Giffords is passionate about international relations. She serves as President of the Atlantic Association of Young Political Leaders, represents the National Committee on China-US Relations as a Young Leaders' Forum Fellow, and is a German Marshall Fund Manfred-Wörner Fellow. In 2005 Giffords was selected for the inaugural two-year class of the Aspen Institute-Rodel Fellowship in Public Leadership.
