Family values

A euphemistic term when used by conservatives to glorify the[values exhibited in 1950's TV portrayal of the nuclear family - White Christian heterosexual married couples with children living in families in which the wife plays a subservient role.

Examples of units which are not valued by Conservatives:

  • Childless married heterosexual couples
  • Widows and widowers
  • Single mothers
  • Single fathers
  • Same-sex couples
  • Same-sex couples with children
  • Single people without children
  • Unmarried couples
  • Unmarried couples with children
  • Divorced couples
  • Divorced couples with children
  • Non-Christian heterosexual married couples with children
  • Heterosexual married couples with children in which both parents have a full-time job
  • Heterosexual married couples with children who attend day care
  • Heterosexual married couples with children in which the mother has a full-time job and the father stays at home or works part-time
  • Heterosexual married couples with children in which the mother is more successful in her career than the father
