Fairy-tale Conservatives.
From dKosopedia
Fairy-tale Conservatives is a phrase capturing two related mistaken ideas: 1) Fantasies about the moral and courageous past and 2) Authoritarian dualistic belief that good and evil and black and white (pun intended).
1) Conservatives like to tell stories about the past -- the good-ole-days. These take the flavor of fairy tales with heros and monsters. These stories tend to be greatly simplified and exaggerated, and they, of course, ignore any and all moral ambiguity (cf. The Lord of The Rings trilogy). Occasionally they are loosely based on a true story. For example:
Once upon a time, there was a "great struggle between good and evil" where the future of civilization hung in the balance. Enter Reagan, our resolute hero on a white horse... etc., etc. ...to rid the planet of the evil monster and save us all. And we lived happily ever after. (Until the next evil, Bill Clinton, came along!)
2) As in a fairy-tale, Republicans ignore nuance, both rhetorically and in their policies. This makes them effective rhetorically in a sound-bite culture, but means their policies usually flop. (But that's ok, there are always evil scapegoats to blame.) Furthermore, they like to think they have "moral clarity", which gives them the unique ability to judge exactly who is "good" and who is "evil". (Hint: By definition, people who agree with them are good.) This leads to unwarranted (over)generalizations, prejudices and stereotypes.
The pun in the phrase, "Republicans see things in terms of black and white," also plays on the wide-spread perception that many are racist, without actually making the claim specifically. (In a way, the racism really is built into that expression anyway.)
