Here, conservatives argue that a pathological hatred of George W. Bush, specifically, has infected the American left and/or the Democratic Party. As a result, Democrats are no longer capable of proposing or evaluating policies intelligently; all they operate on is raw emotion.

Swing voters could be swayed by this meme. They saw Republicans as obsessed with Clinton-hatred during his second term, and that led to the successful 1998 midterms.

Ways to defeat this meme:

• Concentrate on criticism of Bush's policies, rather than his mannerisms, malapropisms, personal life etc.
• Never criticize a policy without suggesting an alternative.
• Always back up an assertion with evidence.
• Avoid foul language; use of words like "bastards" to describe Bush and other Republicans.
