Executive Order 12333
Executive Order 12333 was issued by President Ronald Reagan on December 4, 1981. It describes the goals and responsibilities of the Intelligence Community to provide foreign intelligence information to the President of the United States. It also provides rules for the proper conduct of intelligence activities and for Congressional oversight. E.O. 12333 provides the basis for National Security Letters. This order elaborates on the National Security Act of 1947 and the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
