In recent years, conservatives have been able to demonize intelligence by equating it with “elitism”, thus turning what any sane person would regard as a positive trait into a negative one. Whenever conservatives insist that John Kerry is an elitist while George W. Bush is not, they are, in this sense, perfectly correct.
