Democratic Representative Hilda Solis was first elected to California's 32nd Congressional District in 2001. Rep. Solis was unopposed in 2008. President Barak Obama nominated her to be United States Secretary of Labor, she was approved by the U.S. Senate and assumed office on February 24, 2009.

The special election to replace former Rep. Solis is on July 14, 2009 with the primary election to be held on May 19, 2009.
