Brad Henry is the Democratic governor of Oklahoma. He was elected to that position in 2002, and he was easily reeelcted in 2006, see Oklahoma gubernatorial election, 2006. Before becoming Governor he served ten years in the Oklahoma State Senate. He is a third generation Oklahoman, who attended the University of Oklahoma on scholarship. He received his law degree from OU in 1988, and he was the managing editor of the law review.
As Governor, Henry has increased teacher pay and expanded early childhood education. He also increased the tobacco tax, and instituted a state lottery. He has been endorsed by the NRA. He enabled city and county workers to unionize.
He and his wife Kim have three children, and they are members of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee.
