History

BWIUBS was founded on August 16th, 2009 at Netroots Nation in Pittsburgh, PA and began as a prank on conservative media figures, with the intent to create a labor dispute between liberal bloggers and George Soros.

Blog Workers Industrial Union and Benevolent Society rapidly progressed, growing a volunteer social media operators pool (the volunteer bank) for political campaigns and ballot initiatives, creating a for profit social media consulting company, assisting in the creation of a transparent microcontribution driven political action committee, and in general working to create more infrastructure for a Progressive Democratic machine.

Logo

The logo holds much symbolism for both Blog Workers Industrial Union and Benevolent Society and insiders from Daily Kos. The typewriter together with the organization's name evokes days gone by, when American labor made America strong and journalistic integrity was intact. The steaming coffee cup represents the group's attempt to break down the hyper-individualism afflicting America today, encouraging citizens to re-engage in the political process. The pie is an inside joke from Daily Kos, where disputes are described as pie fights, and it represents the members' willingness to engage in vigorous debate if required. The lounging cat is a nod to the large number of Kossacks who participate in 'pootie diaries' filled with LOL cats.
