Amanda Ragan

Amanda Ragan (D) is currently serving her first full term in the Iowa Senate. She was elected to represent Senate District 10 in March of 2002 and was re-elected to represent Senate District 7, which includes Mason City, Mitchell County, Floyd County, and parts of Cerro Gordo County and Howard County.

Senator Ragan is an Assistant Democratic Leader and serves on the Agriculture, Appropriations, Economic Growth, and Rules and Administration Committees. She is Co-Chair of the Human Resources Committee and is also a member of the Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee.

Senator Ragan has served as a Mason City Chamber of Commerce Diplomat and was named Diplomat of the Year in 1998 and 2001. She has also served on the Mason City Sesquicentennial Committee, the Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee, the Mason City Sunrise Rotary Board of Directors and the Kinney Pioneer Museum Board of Directors, in the North Iowa Fund-raising Professionals Association, the Centers for Congenital and Inherited Disorders Advisory Board, HAWK-I Board, and the Buena Vista University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Senator Ragan has also worked for the North Iowa Girl Scout Council and serves as the executive director of Meals on Wheels and Community Kitchen of North Iowa, Inc., both located in Mason City.

Senator Ragan is married to James Ragan, a retired United States Air Force Lt. Colonel. He also serves as Director of Community Relations at KCMR radio in Mason City. Senator Ragan also has two grown children, Edith and Charles.
