  • Bob Riley (R) - Incumbent. (governor's website)(cw) Riley son the Republican primary with 67% of the vote to Moore's 36%.
  • Roy Moore (R) - Former Chief Justice, Alabama Supreme Court. (cw). Lost June 6 primary election by a 4:1 margin.
  • Comments: Early in his term, Riley proposed a progressive tax plan that was narrowly defeated by an alliance of big businesses and the Christian Coalition. Republican Gov. Bob Riley defeated former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, the "Ten Commandments" judge. in the 2006 GOP primary.
