September 4: Pursued by 5000 U.S. Army soldiers (one-fourth of the total U.S. Army) and 500 scouts, Geronimo surrenders. However the U.S. government violates the surrender agreement by transporting Geronimo and nearly 450 Apache men, women, and children to Florida for confinement in Forts Marion and Pickens.
November 11: Albert Parsons, August Spies, Adolph Fischer, and George Engel are hanged for their parts in the Haymarket Riot.
