Washington State Legislature

From dKosopedia

The Washington State Legislature is a bicameral legislature composed of the Washington State House of Representatives with 98 members, and the Washington State Senate, with 49 Senators. Each district has one Senator and two House members, with the borders of the district being the same for both levels of representation.

The legislative session convenes annually on the second Monday in January. In odd-numbered years -- the budget year -- the State Legislature meets for 105 days, and in even-numbered years for 60 days. [1]

The Governor of Washington, if necessary, can call legislators in for a special session for a 30-day period at any period in the year. Legislators also can call themselves into special session by a two-thirds vote by both the House of Representatives and the State Senate. [2]

Members of the Senate are elected to four-year terms, and House members are elected to two-year terms.
