Waiawa by Gentry

From dKosopedia

Plans for 12,000 homes on Waiawa Ridge in central Oahu by local developer, Gentry Co., investor Alexander & Baldwin and landowner Kamehameha Schools has fallen through according to news reports in November 2009.

Gentry had agreed in 1987 to buy about 3,700 acres from Kamehameha Schools for the project which was to include two golf courses, parks, a commercial center and two schools. Financing for the project has been a major hurdle for Gentry. In 2006, Gentry partnered with Alexander & Baldwin who p;anned to invest $50 million to start an initial phase of development involving 5,000 homes. Construction was to start in 2007 and a 10-year build out was anticipated. [1]

Surrounding community groups were concerned about the exacerbation of traffic on the H-2 freeway by the planned sprawling development.
