Topeka

From dKosopedia

Topeka is the capital of Kansas.

The city of 122,377 (2000 U.S. Census) is approximately 78% White, 12% African-American, 10% Asian, Native American, and other.

Fundamentalism

Topeka is home to the notorious Westboro Baptist Church. Led by Rev. Fred Phelps, church members have made nuisances of themselves at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq with protest signs insisting that the deaths are God's punishment for homosexuality in America. Shirley Phelps-Roper, the daughter of Rev. Phelps and the church attorney, commented that the soldiers who were killed had been, "raised on a big lie that being gay is OK. This is a nation of idolatry that is run rampant with adultery and fornication." Source: Charles Sheehan. "Funeral Protest Ban is Pushed." Chicago Tribune. Janurary 11, 2006.
